Occupational Therapist provides support in Edenhope

Supporting people of all ages and abilities to achieve everyday tasks

Grampians Health – Edenhope is pleased to welcome Ashleigh Mayberry. Based out of the Health & Wellbeing Hub Ashleigh provides occupational therapy services to the Edenhope community as well as the Hospital, Acute Ward and the Aged Care Facility.

In her role as an OT Ashleigh enjoys being able to support people of all ages and abilities to achieve everyday tasks.

“For some people, who may have cognitive, physical or emotional difficulties, completing everyday tasks can be challenging – especially if their environment is not well set up for them. I will complete a thorough assessment of the person, their occupations and their environments to find solutions so that the person can do what they find meaningful and productive.” Said Ashleigh

“As an OT, I can help people apply for accessible parking permits as well as provide equipment to assist them such as electric lift recliner chairs or mobility aids like mobility scooters.  I am able to assist people to modify their homes to improve their safety and access such as installing ramps or accessible showers”.

“Children may have difficulties doing some things because of conditions they have been born with, an illness, injury or a developmental delay. This may affect their independence, wellbeing and confidence. I can work with them and their families to help them do the things they need to do.”

“Sometimes children may have behaviours that are concerning to their parents or guardians. I help children and their families to come up with positive solutions to assist the child to learn appropriate ways of managing their emotions”

“I love how OT is holistic and treats the person as a unique individual with unique needs. My goal in life is to help people, and occupational therapy allows me to do this.”

Ashleigh enjoys being a part of the wider Grampians Health team “Small communities can miss out on health services so I’m glad that I can be part of a team that can provide high quality health care to rural communities. As part of Grampians Health, I have been able to access resources and networking opportunities to enhance my skills.”

Ashleigh’s advice to people “Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone is unique, so we all have different abilities and needs. One solution might work for one person, but not another. Don’t give up if one solution doesn’t work.”

Ashleigh is available for consultation by appointment either at the Health and Wellbeing Hub or in your home on Monday’s and Tuesday’s. Appointments can be made by contacting the Hub on 03 5585 9830.
